brb, hornby time

Seventeen hours til I'm back here. I could not be more stoked.

And because I'm going to be away for the next week or two, here is my new favorite-ish song, to leave on a high note. It's groovy and wonderful in so many ways.
The Car Song, by The Cat Empire

cool, eh?

Something Fishy

I got my new lens! Second hand, with a chipped hood, for way cheaper than I would be able to find at any store. It's definitely different than anything I've tried before, and kind of tricky to get use to. However, it is also super fun to goof around with, and allows you to get sweet shots that you can't get with any other lens. Now that the weather is nice, and I have a two week vacation and a wedding coming up, I'm excited to start taking more pictures and trying new things.

The result of my first day with the new lens.

Pretty cool, eh? Not the most practical lens, but I'm likin' what I can get with it.

And for today's song pick, I have Set Adrift on Memory Bliss, by PM Dawn. Much Music's Top 100 Hip Hop and Rap Songs was on TV today, and the song popped up somewhere in the #100-80 spot. I first heard this song last summer, and I must admit... it is chill as anything.

Here we go summer!

Finally, summer is here! After a depressing (cloudy) start to summer, the heat has finally hit Vancouver. Sure, it isn't nearly as bad as most of the world, but for us Vancouverites who are use to comfortably wearing jeans, a shirt, and a light sweater pretty much year round, the hot weather is welcomed by most. Although it does come with a little bit of discomfort, I just love the feeling of the hot weather. Despite the thickness of the air, the stickiness of your skin, and the constant sweat, I still pretty much everything about it. I'm finally actually stoked about summer, and to do all the sweet summer things- like hiking Quarry rock, hanging out in the park, playing Frisbee, going to the beach, and just hanging out, enjoying the weather. All that good stuff. Anyways, to whoever might be reading this, have a good summer :)

Now a few summer songs, to listen to when the weather gets warm....
Sweet Honey, Slightly Stoopid

Summer of '69, Bryan Adams

What I Got, Sublime

Banana Pancakes, Jack Johnson

and pretty much most of J.J's songs...

Could You Be Loved, Bob Marley

I like this song because it reminds me of the movie Blue Crush, which I use to love. Also, Jammin' by Bob Marley is obvs a classic summer song.

Ka-Boom!

Happy forth of July to all those Americans out there!
Yeah, so maybe July 4th was yesterday. It's the thought that counts, right? Better late than never? Some other cliche expression? Cooool.
Being that I am Canadian, not American, I'm more of a July first kinda kid. Ya know, Happy Canada Day! Seeing as it was a cloudy, not-so-summery day, it didn't feel particularly celebratory. However, I did watch the firework by Waterfront, with the Olympic flame burning bright behind me, so I suppose I did get into the Canadian spirit a little. I attempted to photograph the fireworks as well. Keep in mind, this is the first time I'd tried this, and I didn't have a tripod (or much patience, really). Here are the (somewhat disappointing) results...

Alright, so those are just a few. The smaller they are, the better they look. Admittedly though, definitely not my best.

In hopes of redeeming myself, here's a sweet song a friend showed me...
On Melancholy Hill, Gorillaz

Here are a few interesting things about this video:
1) The song in this video doesn't start until about 0:34
2) The ship is under attack! By pirates! (But don't worry, the little masked girl has it under control with her big gun)
3) Snoop Dogg makes an appearance? (2:10)
4) I think I might be imagining this, but in some parts (ex. 1:04), I swear that in the background there is a quiet, garbled "Al-eh-foryaaaa"... as in "California"... like from the song "California Gurls" by Katy Perry featuring Snoop Dogg. Coincidence? I honestly don't know. (Side note: California Gurls video = confusing and weird on so many levels)
5) 2:19-2:24 makes me smile. That's all.

Hope you enjoy this rad song!

Happy Canada Day!

Happy Birthday Canada!

Patrick Chan, Quatchi, and one big ol' maple leaf.

Proud to be Canadian
:)

Probably the most annoying song ever, but you gotta admit it's got a slightly patriotic, Canadian vibe to it.
