Wow

This is so cool. Literally every single shot of this video is absolutely breathtaking....

Game 7 OT

OH GOD. IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL.

This game was so intense. At points, I honestly thought I was going to pass out. Now, I'm just so so pleased/proud of my Canucks. Here we go round 2!

Skittles

Skittles commercials are kind of upsetting, and a little twisted.

Man can't hold his baby girl, or even live a regular life:

Mom keeps her son, against his wishes (and depriving him of his dream of getting an education/going to college/living a regular life), for her own gain, in order to continue profiting from her... skittle farm?

Things That Make Me Irrationally Angry

I hate to be one to complain, but what else is the Internet for?

...you know how some things just drive you crazy for most irrational reasons? You know what I'm talking about, don't deny it. Yeah I'm talking to you, that person glaring at me as I chew on my pen in the library; you too, that person who huffed at me when I fumbled for my bus change yesterday. Everyone has their irrational pet peeves, and I'm no different. So let me share some of mine:
1) People who chew loudly. I'm not talking about the people who purposely chew obnoxiously just to bug you, the ones who chew with their mouths open, or even the ones who chew with unnecessary gusto. I'm talking about the people who chew with their mouths closed, in a seemingly acceptable way, but still manage to click their teeth, mash their food loudly within their mouth, and generally just make me want to tell them to STOP IT NOW. Of course I don't, because they're not doing it intentionally, but I will leave the room, no joke.

 2) Slow walkers.  It's unnecessary. It's annoying. Whether you are walking with me, in front of me, or awkwardly-beside-but-slightly-ahead-thus-preventing-me-from-passing-you, it makes me want to hit you.

3) (Loud) nose breathers. Most people have a problem with mouth/heavy breathers, which I understand, but the annoying whistle of a nose breath is a much overlooked sound in my opinion. For some reason, I almost only notice this while watching a movie. You know, I'm all like "aw yeah, enjoying my movie," and the person beside me is all like "aw yeah, respectfully breathing quietly through my nose, no heavy mouth breaths coming from this champ! I'm awe-" NO. With each breath is a slight whistle, and that's the sound that is slowly killing my soul.

4) Passive aggressive/attention seeking facebook statuses. Come on. You know what I'm talking about.
...I don't even need to illustrate this one. You know what I'm talking about.

Anyways, I'll stop at 4, although I'm sure there are more. Also, it took me a shockingly long time to draw those pictures, so I hope you appreciate them.

How you doing?

Imagine if these three guys:
himym,wink,NPH

Teamed up, and hit up New York City as each other's wingmen.
THEY WOULD BE UNSTOPPABLE. AmmIright?

Lion King... sort of.

OKAY. So disappointing. For a while there, The Lion King, IN ITS ENTIRETY, was on Youtube. Like, in one big long video, not broken up into 10 different parts or anything. Alas, "the account associated with [that] video has been terminated." So sad. How am I suppose to watch my disney movies from the comfort of my own room? So instead, I will provide you with this (hilarious) abridged version:

Enjoy!

It's about time (for music!)

Alright, so I've been lacking on the music front lately. However, hopefully I'll make it up (at least partially) with this post...
One of the cool/creepy things about living in res was that I could see other people's iTunes, as long as they were nearby, and their setting were set to "easy to creep." Point is, I found some good music looking through other people's iTunes (god do I ever sound creepy), including the band Arkells (no, there is no 'The'). Not only are they enjoyable as hell to listen to, but they're Canadian too! I can't quite find a way to appropriately describe them, but they have a tiny bit of a Mumford & Sons vibe, mixed with a dash of The Dudes, and a lot of something else that I can't quite pin down. Anyways, check them out on Youtube:

Enjoy!

P.S Canucks, get your shit together.

On Being Awkward, Issue 5.

One of the things I like about working (besides the obvious fact that, uh, I like being paid) is that I get some good stories out of it. Keep in mind that I work:
a) in a very popular, beautiful location
b) with many, many customers daily, many of which
     i) don't speak English very well/clearly
ii) know very little about kayaking
c) a very small office area that gets very very hot and sweaty in the summer months

So yeah, I have some good stories. (For example, Zac Efron came into my work once. So did Andy Serkis. Pretty much my only celebrity exposure, like, ever). HOWEVER, sometimes when it's really busy or hot or noisy or I'm tired, etc, there can be awkward moments with customers, mostly to do with me not understanding what they said/saying something incredibly stupid.

Now, I could go on about my work stories for a long time, but I'll spare you, and today, just leave you with..

On Being Awkward, Issue 5.
This happens to me at work, leaving me feel like a complete knob:
So I'm on the phone, making a reservation, and without fail, several times a day I will get either a whisperer, a yeller, or a mumbler (each of these can also be combined with a heavy accent, which is fun). With a very busy office, this can cause some problems. Most of the time, it's not a big deal if I get the info a little off, but I need their name. So I nicely ask, only to be answered with:
Yeah, my work shirt is that color. But brighter.
No idea what they just said. So I ask them to repeat it one more time:
They've been saying this name their whole life, you'd think they'd have it down by now. Why do they pick right now to mumble their way through it, apparently while in heavy traffic, and holding the phone an arms length from their head?! Feeling like a bit of a dink for still not getting it, I reluctantly ask one more time:
At this point, the hieroglyphics were more helpful. Not wanting to ask yet again, I pull out my last trick. This will cleverly let them think I understand what the hell they have been saying this whole time. Perfect! "Alright, can you spell that for me?" And finally, crystal clear, dripping with unimpressed-ness:

Sorry for the especially lame post, I'm pretty tired.

MGG

Remember how I showed you a pretty face to help you through exams way back in December? WELL I HAVE ANOTHER ONE, and his smile is just, if not more, cute.
I actually love this man boy so much. It's a little embarrassing.
Yeah... Matthew Grey Gubler is pretty much the cutest little nerd ever, and the main reason I watch Criminal Minds, especially now that he cut his hair and is looking gooood. Anyways if you are a big Criminal Minds fan like me, or just like Mr. Gubler, or are even just a little bored and looking for something to watch, I suggest you take a look at his Unauthorized Documentary. There are a few episodes, and it's hilarious. So yeah... check it out!

Unpacking with Barney Stinson

This is my room right now (5 days after I've moved back to Vancouver):
Yes, my room is that yellow.
Now, with the help of Barney Stinson (because I think gif's are hilarious, especially one's featuring NPH), I'm going to rationalize my inability to get my stuff unpacked.

Freshman's Wharf

STUDY BREAKKKKKK

Alright, so recently I went to a small short-film fest/screening thing at UVic, and they showed the first two episodes of a web series called Freshman's Wharf that some UVic students made last year. It was pretty amusing, and I went home and watched the rest of the episodes pretty quick. Each episode is only a few minutes, so next time you have have spare half hour or so, I suggest that you pop a squat and give them a look. (Did I just say "pop a squat"? THIS IS WHY I SHOULDN'T BLOG WHEN TIRED) You can see them all on YouTube:
>>Part 1
>>Part 2
>>Part 3
>>Part 4
>>Part 5
>>Part 6
>>Part 7
>>Part 8
>>Part 9
>>Part 10

I don't know too much about the whole situation about the creation of it, except that it was done for a summer course (I think), and the script was selected as a winner in an open contest. It's happening again this year, if you are interested. Anyone is eligible to enter a script. At least that's what they said at the film fest. These rules say differently. So I'm kind of confused. Best idea, just let other people do the hard work, and wait to enjoy the fruits of their labor.

A-HA. Google proves once again to be helpful than I ever could be. Read more here.

(Sorry if this post makes little sense. I'M TIRED.)

Game 1. Tonight. HELL YEAH. I'm sad that I have to miss it in order to go to a play, but still... I'll be cheering for them in spirit. In the mean time, let's get stoked and get our 'nucks pride on with another beauty from Hoodwinked films:

Robert Sheehan leaving Misfits

Alright, so usually I'm not one for getting really into the casts of TV shows and the various changes they make to them. Sure, it sucks when they kill off someone important, or randomly write out a main character, but usually after a few episodes, I'm pretty much over it. Give it a season, and I might even forget about them. BUT, that being said, I just found out that ROBERT SHEEHAN IS NOT COMING BACK FOR THE NEXT SEASON ("series"?) OF MISFITS. Yeah, no more Nathan. So sad. I legitimately feel like this show will maybe be half as good without him. He was definitely my favorite character, and, in my opinion, was a huge part in makaing the show what it was. So yeah... I'm a little sad about that.

If you haven't seen Misfits before, you should probably get on it. You can find it online, and with only 13 episodes and two seasons, you'll get through them pretty quick. In fact, you might wanna wait until exams are over. It's a British TV show, so it has a different feel than most American shows, and I won't say too much about it, except that it's awesome.

Read more about Nathan's departure from the show here. Now excuse me while I show you why I love this boy:

Twat!

As someone who works at a kayak shop but, sadly, does not kayak that much, this looks like pretty much the funnest/most awesome thing ever. I just wish I knew what they were saying. Here's your daily dose of procrastination/youtube video:

On Being Awkward, Issue 4.

On Being Awkward, Issue 4.
Today's situation has potential to be embarrassing/awkward/strangely stress-inducing. So let me guide you in a little mental visualization, just to set the scene properly for you...

You're sitting with some friends, enjoying some nice company and some stimulating (or at least entertaining) conversation. In the back ground, your iPod is hooked up to the speakers, playing that awesome playlist you made up last summer. All in all, it's an enjoyable scene. Inevitably, there is a lull in the conversation, and the room is quiet for a second or two. And that's when you hear it, coming from the speakers like a spiteful little sibling, jealous that you're not giving it enough attention:

Dun. Dun dun. Oh woooo-ah. Dun dun. OooOooOooo-waah. Dun dun. OoooOOOooOOoooOOoh*... Ya know ya love me-

Oh balls. Justin Bieber's "Baby" comes on your iPod, just in time for everyone in the entire room to judge. There's an awkward pause as everyone takes in the fact that, yes, this is the Biebs playing on your iPod. No matter how fast you jump up and change the song, or joke about "uh, yeah.. my sister totally put that on there," it's too late. Despite the fact that this song is undoubtedly catchy, unless you are a 15 year old girl, you will likely be at the mercy of your acquaintances judging looks if this happens.

It's awkward/embarrassing because, no matter how good you musical taste is, that one embarrassing guilty pleasure will pop up somehow, and once you've reached that point, there's no going back. (And everyone has one of those songs- if you think you don't you're probably really pretentious and annoying about music, sorry.)  Also, I've found that also everyone (excluding those music snobs I just mentioned) is oddly self-conscious about their musical taste, myself included. For example, if you're playing your iTunes around people you don't know that well/want to impress/are very into music, it can be an oddly stressful/over-analyzed process. This is pretty much how it goes down in my head:
Okay... what to play... everyone likes Jack Johnson right? It's nice chill music.. but no, it's too obvious. Just stick to a playlist, keep it a little varied! Oh this is a good one... oh but it's got those two embarrassing ones mixed in there... what if they don't like Girl Talk? I like it, but they might not- WHY IS THIS SO HARD?!

And basically my neurotic little brain can't handle the possibility of playing music people don't like (even though, really, who bases a negative opinion of someone off of what's on their iPod? Douches, that's who.) so I just fail randomly and usually let someone else pick, or play my default Hornby playlist.

So yeah.... I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who feels weirdly self-conscious when my iPod is playing around people I don't know that well. Which is pretty irrational, but this situation is exactly why. At least, I think so. Is it just me?
Not my best drawing... ah well.

(*PS. Props to whoever got my very literal, but not very clear, typed rendition of the intro to "Baby" way up there.)

Study-break

For those of you still in school, don't worry! You're almost done, and hopefully this will help you push through the last little bit.
For those of you not in school at the moment, you can still appreciate this. Because it's kind of awesome.

Back to Vancouver

BEFORE
AFTER
Not pictured: my room back home, with an entire dorm room's worth of stuff piled on my floor. Oops. Today I moved back, officially, to North Van. It feels a bit weird actually, to be done with res life forever, but kinda nice at the same time. Not that I didn't like living in res, but it gets a little old after a while. There's definitely a few things I'll miss about living in Victoria, for sure, but for now it'll be nice to have delicious home-made food and see my fellow North Vanners again.

As promised, here's a cool video/song to listen to. (Last night my dad came over to my sister's house and led a bunch of my sister's friends in a jam sesh type thing. It was awesome, and at one point he was playing along to this one. As is the case with just about every song turned acoustic(ish), I dig it).

Finally, sun!

So today is one of those days where it's so nice and sunny and gorgeous out that you can't help but feel happy, especially when you see little kids wearing adorable animal toques frolicking on the grass, and the lunch in the caf is actually good today (which is nice, because it's your last res lunch ever), and it's Friday, which means they are making the best smoothies at VG's, and you're all like "YEAH I'm going to make the most of today!" because now that you are done exams you literally have nothing to do, except for pack up you entire room because you're moving back to Vancouver tomorrow, BUT you can put that off for a few more hours, because today is too nice to be packing all day (because packing kinda sucks).

How's that for a run-on sentence? But seriously, today is so nice and sunny and it smells like summer, which is just lovely. SO, if you are studying today, take a break and enjoy the sun :) (or at least bring your studying outside)

In other news, I seriously want to cuddle a lion (or two):

Vader

So, due to the fact that it's FINALLY stopped raining and has been nice and sunny the last few days, and I have lots of extra time on my hands, I headed downtown today to enjoy the sun and walk around downt-
IS THAT DARTH VADER? PLAYING THE VIOLIN? Why yes. Yes it is. A common sight in downtown Victoria, this guy plays a mean violin. And nothing else I did today is interesting in comparison.

P.S blogger you are stupid because you won't let me post the edited versions of my pictures, which are much more awesome.

Study-break

So I realized that, when deciding to post a video a day, I had failed to fully think this plan out. I definitely only know about 3 amusing videos at anytime, and I was pretty sure that I was going to have to resort to youtubing "funny baby" or "cute cat" very very soon. BUT fortunately, people post all sorts of great videos on facebook, so as long as I do my casual lurking, I can find all kinds of cool things.

So here it is, your study-break for today. My friend posted this on my wall yesterday. It WILL make you smile, even just a little, because who knew that something so simple could be so goddamn awesome and cheerful.

HOW MUCH DO YOU WANT TO DO THAT NOW?

Hardcore

You think school is hard? THIS IS HARD. (hard-core too)

Bucket List: tiny animals and huge food

How fitting that, for my 100th post, I have some exciting news! And by exciting, I mean it's good day for me, and this "exciting" news really doesn't affect anyone else, other then (vaguely) people back in North Van who will be seeing me soon! What is all this babbling for? WELL, what I'm trying to get at is that, approximately 30-40 minutes ago, I finished my last exam. Yeah, exciting (for me), right? Again, I'm done suspiciously early, but it seems like I've survived first year! So that's good news.

But no worries, I will still be posting mini-posts for study breaks (probably more so, because now I have nothing really to do with my time...) for all you studious people who still have classes and exams.

But first, I'd just like to put this out there:

Facebook sometimes has really weird and/or misleading ads in the sidebar. Seriously. They constantly have really random, irrelevant pictures. Which I suppose is called "advertising" but really? For example, please let me know if you know where you can do/see ANY of these things in Victoria:
Hand held deer, with angry eyebrows

Because SCREW YOU gravity
When we say "taco" we mean "taco flavored WALRUS." Hot sauce included.

"What are we doing today?" "I don't know, but there will be PUPPIES."

I'm not even sure what this is, maybe a roller coaster? Whatever it is, it is NOT in Victoria.

Inflatable shark building, no big.

Of these 365 things to do, this will likely be the last, seeing as it would almost definitely kill you.
Here, have a big-ass hamburger with your pickles

Feeding tiny rodents with tiny bottles, SCORE.

99 Blogposts

This is my 99th blog post. Sooo, for the sake of keeping things thematic, today's study-break post will consist of a bunch of variations of the song 99 Problems by Jay-Z, also know as Rolling Stone's 2nd best song of the 2000's. This song is great, and there are a LOT of remix's/mash-ups of it out there. I know that rap isn't everyone's thing, but cummon... Jay-Z's rapping in this song is hard not to like.

>>99 Problems (original), Jay-Z
>>One Step Closer/99 Problems, Jay-Z and Linkin Park
>>99 Problems (Prodigy Remix)
>>99 Problems/She Drives Me Crazy (DJ Angelo), Jay-Z and Fine Young Cannibals
>>99 Problems in the USA (mashup), Jay-Z and Miley Cyrus
>>Alejandro vs 99 Problems (mashup), Jay-Z and Lady Gaga

Anyways, hope you enjoyed at least a few of these. Personally, I like the Jay-Z/FYC one.

Also, stop raining Victoria. You're bumming me out.

If song writers didn't LOWER their poetic standards...

Hopefully everyone had a good weekend, and got through their mandatory end-of-classes (again: yes, UVic is finished classes already. Ya jealous?) celebrations. However, now the weekend is nearing an end, and it's time to get back to studying. During exam time, the library is so full of people that it is

a) nearly impossible to find a place to sit, let alone one that is ideal for studying
b) kind of distracting

So I'm hiding out in the MacLaurin building, where it is nearly empty (but not so much that it's creepy), warm, and nice and quiet. I'll be holed up here, drinking tea and studying for my English exam, for the next day and a half. But, because I promised I'd post videos to bring a little joy to exam time, here's one that's kind of amusing, and is what the title of this post is referring to:

Not quite as catchy as the originals,  but I like where he's going.

April, Day 1.

Exams are here (at least for us UVic students). I've had four this week. But for most people, the next few weeks of April are going to be filled with last minute cramming, all-nighters, lots more exams, and a general feeling of "Ijustwantthistobeoverpleaseohgodwhyisthisnotoveryet?!" Of course, there are some good aspects: people are finishing their undergrad degrees, successfully surviving their first year at university, the weather is (sometimes) finally getting nicer, and we're getting always closer to summer.

Anyways, for the next few weeks, I'm just going to post a video or picture every day or so that'll hopefully give you a nice break from studying/maybe make you smile during exam season.

This first one was shown to me by a friend a few days ago, and, although a little cheesy, it's a very nice video. Who knows, maybe it'll inspire you to reach your highest potential during exam time. Or make a floating soccer field, because it looks awesome.
