Walk Off The Earth

YouTube is a really great thing. It shares things across the world, creates communities, and provides endless hours of entertainment. It's also a great place to discover new music. Recently a group called Walk Off The Earth did a cover of Goyte's song "Somebody That I Used To Know." It went viral, and it's not hard to see why. After seeing this video, I checked out some of their other songs. They do both covers and original songs, and they're awesome. As of today, the "Somebody That I Used To Know" video has 34.5 million views. It was posted less than 3 weeks ago. Check it out:


Some of my other favorite's by these guys are a kick-ass version of Adele's "Someone Like You," and Lady Gaga's "Edge of Glory."

Born This Way

Good.

Better.

Lady Gaga's new CD, Born This Way, was released yesterday. I know I already talked about some of the songs a few posts back, but now ALL the songs are out. And I've listened to them all.

Here is my very brief review:

Born This Way, while very different from Gaga's The Fame Monster, is impressive. It has a more complex, less mainstream, feel than The Fame Monster. It's less easy to sing along to, and I got a bit of a self-absorbed vibe. BUT, that being said, it is still a very very good CD. Just about every track had me dancing at least from the head up (I think there are maybe 1 or 2 I didn't particularly take to, but I won't disclose which ones. I don't want to negatively bias your first listen). While I don't think Born This Way will be as widely praised as The Fame Monster, I think, musically, it's just as good, if not better. As well, there's no doubt Judas, Born This Way, and maybe even The Edge of Glory will rank up there in the charts with Pokerface, Bad Romance, etc. 

I'm no expert, just a Gaga fan, but that's what I think. I give it 4 big fat stars out of 5. Maybe 4.5, depending on what song I'm listening to (for example, if I'm listening to Edge of Glory, all of a sudden EVERYTHING SHE DOES IS AWSOME.)

Edge of Glory

There's been a lot of hype about Lady Gaga's new album Born This Way, and the title track, as well her other single "Judas," have been getting a lot of attention, especially with the revealing of the respctive music videos (and, as always, they were very impressive). You can see the videos for Born This Way and Judas here and here. But I was shown another one of her tracks from Born This Way just a few days ago. I hadn't even heard of it before, but after giving it a listen, I have to say it's my favorite of Gaga's newest songs. Check it out, and just try to tell me you were bobbing along:

It's got a different sound than most of her stuff. The horns(?) at around the 3:00 mark are sweet.

Gaga Pt.2

Anything that requires dressing up (or down?) in glitter, leather, tinfoil, pepsi cans, wigs, caution tape, and anything skin tight is always fun.

It was my sister's 22nd birthday on Friday and, in celebration of this big day, she threw a Lady Gaga/Glam rock themed party. People got really into their costumes, which was awesome, even the guys (see picture). There were some full out amazing costumes there, and everyone had a good time. At one point, there were at least twenty people full on belting out a whole selection of songs, such as Don't Stop Believing, Bohemian Rhapsody, Baby, and Fuck You. Then, the birthday girl got serenaded, Disney style. That is, with You'll Be In My Heart. Yeah. It was a good time.

So for Hilary: Happy Gaga Day! (every and any day can be Gaga day)







Also, Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes is one of my favorite songs (like, ever) and I stumbled upon this remix a few days ago. It's kind of weird at first, but it actually kind of grew on me. Check it out:

Ga-ga, oh la la

So, I know it's a little after the fact, but on Tuesday (four days ago) I went and saw Lady Gaga in concert. To say the least, it was absolutely freakin' fantastic. Not only was the music sweet, but Gaga is a genuinely great entertainer, interacting with the crowd and getting so into the show that, in between songs, she was often at a loss for breath, panting to try and recover before the next song. Also, the costumes were (obviously) over the top great, and the whole atmosphere was so energenic and awesome. My sister went with some friends the night before me, and I tagged along to their pre-concert drink(s) at Cafe Crepe to take photos of them in their sweet Gaga costumes. This one, post editing, is one of my favorite of the bunch.
