The Secret to Working Out

I'll be the first to admit it: I'm not a fan of exercising for fun.

I mean, I don't hate it. I won't go out of my way to avoid it, and I've done sports all my life. I even enjoy walking/hiking/kayaking/paddle boarding. You know, easy exercise. The kind that you don't really realize you're doing because you're enjoying it (it probably doesn't hurt that I do this kind of stuff in North Van, which is arguably one of the prettiest outdoor recreation B.C has to offer). My friends are always asking me "Wanna go for a run?" or "Wanna hit the gym this afternoon?" To this I reply, usually with a laugh, "Nope." (subtext: I have more important things to do- like eating, and blogging to the internet. Legit excuses... right?)
A shockingly accurate depiction of my hair.

If anything, I'm more of a fan of the feeling you get when you stop after a hard workout. I mean, hot yoga is nice and all, but nothing beats that feeling when you walk your wobbly legs out of that hot little sweat room and a big ol' wave of cool air hits you like the nicest brick wall you've ever been hit with. Same with running- the running itself is mediocre at best (and really exhausting and painful and its worst), but the few minutes after a big run, where your heart is still pounding, and you just wanna collapse in a puddle on the ground, and your breathing is still coming out a little choppy, but you can feel yourself catching your breath and getting a normal feeling back to all your body parts... that I like.

Anyways, back on track- all that being said, I have been talked into going to the gym with a friend on occasion. I stick pretty much exclusively to cardio- half an hour on the elliptical, half an hour on the bike, yadda yadda. I've discovered that the difference between an awful gym experience and a decent one is all in the music. The key to making the time pass quickly(ish) is to have a killer playlist.

And I have found the golden genre.

It's more of a sub-sub genre actually, if you can even call it that. Whatever it is, it is the absolute best thing ever while you are on the bike, treadmill, running for kicks, etc. I'm serious. It makes you feel like a superhero, ready to kick ass and go super super hard on your workout for the day.

Curious? Well here it is:

Zelda Dubstep.
I don't actually look like this much of a douche when I go to the gym. Neither do I actually know how to draw a bike machine. And I actually do wear shoes to the gym, so don't be fooled by that. Finally, I apologize for the overall shitiness of this drawing.

Call me a nerd, but this stuff is prime pump-up material. These are the two I have on my iPod:

Dubstep can be kind of awesome for working out.

What do you think? Do you have a better exercise playlist/song? Lemme know!
